A local family and police are asking for help in locating a woman who’s been missing since December.
April Pickens, 29, was last seen Dec. 26 near her home at Pisgah View Apartments. The woman, described by family members as outgoing and humorous, has five children between 1 and 10 years old.
“She’s never done this before,” said her sister, Kimya Pickens. “Her children are here, and her family is here. It’s just shocking to us.”
Family members are distributing fliers with information about April along with photos.
Kimya Pickens said her sister left on the afternoon of Dec. 26 to meet a male friend and never returned. Kimya saw her shortly before she disappeared when April stopped by her apartment to borrow some perfume.
But April didn’t tell family members whom she was meeting. She left in good spirits, Kimya said.
“This was somebody that we didn’t know,” she said. “She had her face all fixed up, and her hair was done.”
April Pickens seemingly vanished into thin air, said her mother, Anita Carson.
No one has seen her or heard from her in more than two months. Left behind are her children — Myasia 10, Christian, 6, Neveah, 4, Silus, 2, and Serenity, 1 — who miss their mother, Carson said.
“No one has come to us and told us anything,” Carson said.
April is the oldest of Carson’s four children, she said.
Police continue to search for leads in the case, Asheville police Lt. Wally Welch said.
“We have little to nothing to go on,” he said. “Right now, it’s just a true mystery where she is. We don’t think she would just arbitrarily up and leave her children, so we are concerned about her.”
Family members and police ask that anyone with information about April call Crimestoppers at 255-5050.
“We need some kind of a lead so we can locate her,” Welch said.
The search continues for 29-year-old April Pickens of Asheville, NC. Her family members are asking for the public’s help to find her.
April Michelle Pickens was last seen on December 26, 2011 at her home (Pisgah View Apartments) in Asheville, North Carolina. She told a friend that she was waiting for a ride but no one knows who picked her up.
April has brown eyes and short black hair. She is about 5’4 and weighs around 155lbs. She has pierced ears. April has three tattoos: Chinese letters on her right breast, the Gemini sign on her right thigh and “Eric” on her upper back.
Her family say April has 5 children and it is completely out of character for her to leave and not contact them. Her family and kids are extremely worried and miss her terribly.
