UPDATE #1: Jhessye Shockley Landfill Search (AZ)

UPDATE:  Glendale police spent roughly $180,000 in the first month of the landfill search for 5-year-old Jhessye Shockley’s remains. Police are in the fifth week of their search at the Butterfield Station Landfill in Mobile. They have yet to recover anything significant to their case but have not placed a time limit on the operation. By the end of last week, police had sifted through about a quarter of the day’s trash – roughly 6,000 tons – they believe are most likely to contain Jhessye’s remains. The family of a missing Glendale girl is questioning her mother’s innocence one month after the 5-year-old’s disappearance. Jhessye Shockley vanished from her apartment near 45th and Glendale avenues in October. Jhessye’s family stood by her mother, Jerice Hunter, from day one. Now, they’re questioning her innocence because she reportedly won’t take a lie detector test . Jahessye Shockley, the missing 5-year-old Glendale girl, has now been missing for roughly 40 hours, and investigators continue to search for the young girl. Authorities have expanded the search for Shockley, who it now appears could have potentially been abducted. According to the Glendale P.D., Shockley wandered away from siblings — who were caring for her at her family’s apartment at the time — a little before 5 p.m. Tuesday and hasn’t been seen since.
